FUN FACTS
* About 90 percent of the nation's lobster supply is caught off the coast of Maine.* One in two million lobsters is blue.
* The wild blueberry, vaccinium angustifolium, aiton, is Maine's official state berry. Moxie, developed by Union, Maine native Augustin Thompson from a patent medicine formula in 1884, is its official soft drink.
* Camden's Captain Hanson Crockett Gregory (1832-1921) allegedly invented the donut hole when six crewmen drowned after eating too many solid fried cakes. Sailors later came to call ring donuts 'life preservers'. Another theory: Gregory stabbed his donut on the central spoke of his ship's wheel to regain control during a storm. (The wheel of his final vessel, The Donati, indeed bore a greasy ring around its spoke.)
